Teeth whitening
Teeth whitening is the quickest, easiest and most cost effective way to access cosmetic dentistry. Clients with teeth discoloured by coffee, tea, red wine, certain medications, root canal treatment and aging, can now access easy to use products that have an instant and lasting effect on the colour of your teeth.
At Olive Dental Care patients can choose between home whitening or in-surgery whitening treatments.
Home whitening

The DIY, home whitening procedure begins in the surgery, where we will custom make a rubber mouth mould (or tray) to fit your teeth precisely. After fitting, the dentist will supply you with bleaching gel and give you a short tutorial in how to follow the course to completion. You’ll need to wear the tray for a few hours each day and within a few weeks you should achieve the long lasting colour that you desire.
In-surgery whitening
This treatment takes place entirely in the dental surgery and with this you should see a noticeable improvement to your teeth in a short space of time. There’s no fixed time period for the entire course of treatment – the number of visits you need to make will be dependent on the level of discoloration with which you began the course and the level of whitening you wish to achieve by the end.
Achieve a dazzling new smile in a one hour session!
To start, you will be asked to attend an hour long session, which will begin by recording the starting shade of your teeth. We’ll then place a protective border around your teeth and apply the whitening & bleaching gels. It will take about 45 minutes to take effect and you can pass the time in the dental chair watching your favourite DVD or listening to music.
At the end of the session the gel is washed away and the tooth shade checked to show the improvement. Often the change achieved in one hour long session exceeds the expectations of our patients, but where spectacular changes in tooth shade are desired, some patients can benefit from more than one treatment.
We will always consult with you before treatment begins to advise you on the best way to achieve the results you want. Sometimes a combination of in-surgery and home whitening works best. And of course, caps, crowns and veneers don’t whiten in the same way that teeth do. So before you are asked to spend a penny, we will guide you as to the best possible results that you can achieve through whitening and work out a budget for you to achieve those results.
