Should we be using antibacterial toothpastes?

During recent years, questions have been raised about the use of antibacterial mouthwashes, due to a risk of killing off healthy bacteria from the tongue. Although antibacterial toothpastes don’t have as much contact with the tongue, there are differing opinions as to whether they are good for our overall health.

When “good” bacteria are killed, the bad bacteria run rampant – causing inflammation throughout the body. This increases risk for heart disease and other serious health problems.

– Find out whether your mouthwash contains triclosan and check with your dentist if you are unsure whether to be using it.

– Regularly brush your teeth, floss and visit your dentist for check ups.

– Eat a balanced diet with plenty of leafy green veggies and beets, which contain nitric oxides.
